End of 1st Semester Details
Email sent to BHS families on 1/4/2021
The end of first semester is Friday, January 15th. The next two weeks will continue on the A/B, C-day schedule. BHS will not have final exams this semester, but may have chapter tests/assessments next week as teachers wrap up instructional units. Students are expected to be in attendance for their A or B day and C-days if they are assigned. Jan. 14th will be the last day of new learning, and Jan.15th will be a C-day for students who are below a 70% in a class. C-days are also available for students who have above 70% but would like to work with their teachers to try and improve their grades.
As you may already be aware, the semester 1 grade is the grade which gets permanently stored on your transcript. Therefore, we hope you reserve the time necessary over the course of the next 2 weeks to make a strong final push to get your grades to the highest percentage/grade possible. Grade classification is based on the number of credits a student has at the end of each school year. Students can earn ½ credit per course each semester with a passing grade (65% or higher). EX: Freshmen are taking 7 classes and can earn up to 3.5 credits per semester..
Credits needed per grade classification:
Freshman--less than 5 credits
Please reach out to administration or counselors if you have any questions or concerns.
** This does NOT apply to those students who are 100% distance learners.
Wednesday mornings, we will be running a grade check for all BHS students. Students with grades BELOW 70% will be required to come into the building for tutoring from 8:20am-12pm on our next C-Day. You will receive an email notification on Wednesdays if your student should be coming in for tutoring. Attendance will be taken, and unexcused absences will count towards final test exemption. Busing will be available those days and will run at normally scheduled morning and afternoon times. On-line learning will continue to take place on C-days for all 9-12 students. Students with grades above 70% will be able to complete their assignments from home.
The end of the semester is Jan. 15th, which means there are only 19 school days for students to get caught up and earn credit for the semester. Students with failing grades at the end of the semester will be required to retake those classes.
C-Day tutoring is also available to all students with grades 70% and above. Students should work with their teachers to set tutoring as needed.
Grade 9 students
Freshmen with grades BELOW 70% will be expected to be at Bismarck High for the whole school day (until 3:28). Tutoring time will run from 8:20 to 12pm. Lunch will be served from 12-12:30pm in the BHS commons. The afternoon will be time to work on that day’s new learning. Freshmen parents can call and check out their students during the afternoon, but assigned morning tutoring is mandatory.
Grade 10-12 students
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors with grades BELOW 70% will be expected to be at Bismarck High during assigned morning tutoring sessions. Tutoring will run from 8:20am-12:00pm. Once 10th-12th graders have completed their assigned tutoring, they may work from home for the rest of the school day. The commons will be available to students if they want to stay at school and complete their C-day assignments.
Students will report to the following areas by 8:15am to pick up their tutoring schedules:
Please remind your student to pick up their tutoring slip because if your students does not they will be assumed absent and you will get a text.
