Assistive Technology Services
The term "Assistive Technology Service" refers to any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device. An "Assistive Technology Device" is defined under federal law as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability".
Assistive technology services are provided by various student support staff, including speech therapists, occupational therapists and special education teachers. In addition, the Bismarck Special Education Department has employed Assistive Technology Specialists to assist teams with selection, acquisition, and use of devices.
Please contact your local school or the Special Education Department at 701-323-4028 for more information about Assistive Technology Services.
