Welcome to Inclusive Sports
Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!
Bismarck Pulic Schools is proud to again offer a school-based Inclusive Sports program for the 2018-2019 school year. Inclusive Sports is a program that combines students of all abilities onto the same team and allows them to compete for their school. For the 2018-2019 school year, we plan to offer the following three sports:
There will be at least one flag football team at each high school with the possibility of more pending the number of students interested. Unified Flag Football rules require that each team have five players on the field at a time. Of the five players, three will be students with a disability (athletes) and two will be students without a disability (partners). Flag football teams will practice two times per week at their respective school for one hour each day. Games will be held on Saturdays at a location yet to be determined. The season will run for approximately 7-8 weeks. For a complete game schedule, see that high school's online activity schedule on the webpage.
Bowling will begin in late December and run into February. While the details are still being finalized, the plan is to have teams compete twice each week. One day will fall during the week with the second day likely to fall on Saturday mornings. Competitions for bowling will last an hour to an hour and a half and will take place at Midway Lanes in Mandan.
Track will begin in April and the number of meets will be dependent upon the weather but we have a goal of having kids in in 4-5 track meets through the months of April and May.
I want to participate...what do I need to do?
First, you will want to sign up. To do that, please contact your site coordinator (Ms. Schneider - BHS, Mrs. Bohrer - CHS, Mrs. Aadnes - LHS).
Second, you will need a physical. This needs to be completed prior to beginning the registration process. You can either download a copy of the NDHSAA form or the Special Olympics Physical Form and take it to the doctor with you. Please note, if you are going to compete in traditional sports at your school, you MUST use the NDHSAA form. If cost is an issue in obtaining a physical, please contact your site coordinator.
Last, you will need to complete the online activity registration at your school. This can be accessed on your school's activites page and is the icon with the sports balls on it. When registering, please make sure to select the Inclusive Sport(s) that you plan to participate in for the year. Registration is something that will need to be done each year.

Are you interested in helping out?
To make this program run, we are in need of coaches and officials and are looking for volunteers to help make sure that things run smoothly. We are also seeking funding to help offset the cost associated with the purchase of new equiment, uniforms and rental fees assocaited with bowling. We anticipate that we will need approximately $15,000 to make it all come together. We have partnered with the Bismarck Public Schools Foundation to launch a page for donors to help offset those costs. If you are interested in partnering with us with your time and/or resources, please contact Ben Lervick or Sara Bohrer at Century High School.
