Definition of School Nursing

School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential.

BPS School Nurses

All elementary buildings have the services of a school nurse for an assigned number of hours per week. There are currently 10 nurses serving in the 19 buildings (including BECEP). The three secondary feeders each have a nurse that shares her time between the middle and high schools. In addition, there is a full-time school nurse who serves students with Individualized Education Plans and serves as coordinator for the 13 school nurses.
