Makerspaces Info & Dates to Remember
Our Makerspaces Club took the month of September off to allow us to get a Lego Robotics team up and running. Makerspaces will be returning for grades 1-5 in October with an interrupted run due to conferences and bookfair. Makerspaces for kindergarten will begin in January.
Makerspaces is a place where kids can explore pretty much anything they are interested in. We have tools and resources available for robotics, green screen and stop motion video, coding, circuitry in many formats, engineering tasks, sewing, knitting, paper crafts, free form creations, and lots more.
We have Makerspaces both Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:10-4:30 (pick a night - we do two nights so more kids can participate) in Miller Library. The schedule for October is a bit different as we work around the Parent-Teacher conference schedule. The Tuesday group will meet Oct. 2nd, 23rd and 30th. The Thursday group will meet all 4 Thursdays.
Parents register their students each month on the following dates:
Oct. 23rd, Nov. 27th, Dec. 18th, Jan. 28th, Feb. 26th, March 26th, and April 23rd. These dates are all Tuesdays and kids will be registered for the following month. Registration begins at 6 a.m. and we take them until we’re full (20 kids per night). To register your student, send an email to Deb Job after 6 a.m. and include the name of your student, name of their teacher, and the day that works for you.
We are also looking for volunteers to help with activities. If you can help for an afternoon, a month, or the whole year, we’d love to have you! Please let Ms. Job know. If you have a talent to share - even better!

Second Step is a program which provides instruction in social and emotional learning. It includes units on skills for learning, empathy, emotional management, friendship skills, and problem solving. At Miller Elementary, all grade levels K-5 receive Second Step lessons each week. Please talk with your students about what they are learning and watch for more information from your teacher.

Prep for Emergencies
Schools have emergency plans to keep students safe from threats of violence or natural disasters—families should, too.

Watch D.O.G.S.
Miller Elementary’s goal is to get student’s fathers (and father-figures) to take the time to volunteer one day a year in their child’s school. Statistics show that by having fathers more involved, children develop more fully socially, physically, academically, and emotionally. When you volunteer, it also shows your child that education is important to you.
