MESSAGE FROM MRS. DORRHEIM
A Note From Mrs. Dorrheim
It's hard to believe it's already November! Our staff at Sunrise this year is focusing on gratitude. When we look for the good and the blessings in our lives with grateful hearts, we realize the following quote to be true: "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more." - Melody Beattie
At Sunrise, we're grateful for our parents and everyone that attended Parent/Teacher Conferences a couple weeks ago to continue the partnership with your child's teacher as they continue to grow and learn. We're grateful for our PTO for contributing their time and talent and fundraising to put on events for our families and for funding wonderful projects for all to enjoy. We're grateful for our staff: teachers, support staff, instructional aides, cooks, custodians, secretaries, building subs, and specialists who, as a team, work together to make a difference. Finally, we're grateful for our students who show us their greatness as they share their talents and gifts with us each and every day.
Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
CHESS CLUB AT SUNRISE
At Sunrise Elementary School, we believe in providing quality and diverse education for our students. Sunrise will be offering a one-week Chess Club as an opportunity to enhance the students’ education skills, enhance their self-confidence and develop their analytical ability. Each of these traits are crucial elements for people to achieve success. We will be having 3-time ND State Chess Champion, Todd Wolf, in our school November 27-30 from 7:45-8:30 to direct a chess club. The fee for the club will be $30 per student. There will be a limit of about 25 students in the club and spots will be reserved on a first come first served basis. If there is a lot of interest, we may look at offering another week later in the year. If your child is interested, please complete this registration form and return it to the office with cash or a check made out to Todd Wolf. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Wolf at 701-426-3768.
Backpacks For Kids Program
Community Action Backpack for Kids Program along with the United Way proudly distribute food bags to our schools each week. These bags are filled with “kid-friendly” non-perishable meals and snacks for kids to eat throughout the weekend. If your child is on the free/reduced lunch program, please reach out to Kristen Curl, School Social Worker if you would like to have your child added to our list. 701-323-4300 or kristen_curl@bismarckschools.orgNURSE NOTES FROM NURSE DARA
The Truth About Head Lice
Finding out your child or child’s friend has head lice is far from humorous for most of us, but don’t panic. I’m sure you can guess that head lice are more common in children, but did you know that kids are 96% more likely to get head lice outside of school? This is because head lice are transmitted through prolonged, close head-to-head contact. Lice can’t jump or fly. They like to stay where it is dark and warm, close to the scalp. They won’t leave this area unless they are going to another warm scalp that is within walking distance. Transmission is more likely to occur between family members, overnight guests, and playmates that spend a lot of time together. Because there is such a low risk of transmission at school, routine classroom or school wide screening is not recommended. This means parents will no longer receive letters informing them that there is a case of head lice in their child’s classroom/school. Please check your child periodically. For more information about head lice, contact your school nurse, Bismarck Burleigh Public Health at 355-1540, or visit www.ndhealth.gov.
