Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance

    Bismarck Public Schools offers health (with no overall deductible), dental and vision insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota.  BCBS has partnered with Vision Service Plan (VSP) and United Concordia (UCD) to help manage the vision/dental benefits.

    • Employees will have a waiting period from hire date for the plan(s) to take effect.  Waiting period is determined by start date.
      • Employment begins the 1st to the 15th of the month, coverage will begin the 1st of the next month.
      • Employment begins the 16th through the 31st of the month, coverage will begin the 1st of the following month.
    • Bismarck Public Schools will participate in an open enrollment period - late fall 2020 (end of November) for staff to make changes to their plan(s) for 2021.  An email from the HR Department will be sent to all staff eligible for insurance with information on the open enrollment period.

Need to Complete an Application/Make Changes to your Current Plans(s)?

  • Employees will visit Talent Ed Records to complete an online application for all new insurance applications and any changes that need to be made to existing plans.  

    • New Baby (change must be made within 31 days of the birth/adoption of the baby)
      • Must provide birth certificate
    • Marital Status Change (change must be made within 31 days of the date of change)
      • Must provide marriage certificate
      • Must provide divorce decree
    • Losing Coverage (supporting documents showing termination dates are required for all plans)
    • Death of a Family Member

Telehealth Information

  • Bismarck Public Schools has partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) to offer a telehealth solution.  This service will be proved by American Well (Amwell) and will be available to employees and your families who are covered under the health plan.

    • A fast and easy way to see a doctor via video visits.
    • Consultation, diagnosis—even prescriptions (when available and appropriate).
    • Flexibility, it is perfect when your doctor’s office is closed, you’re too sick or busy to see someone in person, or even when you’re traveling. 

    Here are some key facts you should note about this offering:

    • Telehealth is part of your health insurance plan through BCBSND.
    • $20 copay for each Telehealth visit will apply.
    • Any payments made for Telehealth visits will be factored into BCBSND deductibles and out-of- pocket maximums.
