Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance

Bismarck Public Schools offers health (with no overall deductible), dental and vision insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. BCBS has partnered with Vision Service Plan (VSP) and United Concordia (UCD) to help manage the vision/dental benefits.
- Employees will have a waiting period from hire date for the plan(s) to take effect. Waiting period is determined by start date.
- Employment begins the 1st to the 15th of the month, coverage will begin the 1st of the next month.
- Employment begins the 16th through the 31st of the month, coverage will begin the 1st of the following month.
- Bismarck Public Schools will participate in an open enrollment period - late fall (mid-November) for staff to make changes to their plan(s) for the following year. An email from the HR Department will be sent to all staff eligible for insurance with information on the open enrollment period.
- If staff need to make changes throughout the year due to a qualifying event or have questions on any of these benefit plan(s), please contact Paulette Kerzmann or (701) 323-4072 for more information.

Employees will visit Unified Talent Records to complete an online application for all new insurance applications and any changes that need to be made to existing plans.
- New Baby (change must be made within 31 days of the birth/adoption of the baby)
- Must provide birth certificate or legal documentation
- Marital Status Change (change must be made within 31 days of the date of change)
- Must provide marriage certificate
- Must provide divorce decree
- Losing Coverage (supporting documents showing termination dates are required for all plans).
- Death of a Family Member
