6th Grade Activities

6th Grade Activity Programming-BPS Middle Schools 2016-2017

A list of 6th grade activities and information pertaining to each is below. There is also information below that will help to answer questions that might arise.

Will 6th graders need a physical to participate: No

Will 6th graders be required to view the "Know the Risks" and hazing videos: No, but participants and parents should view the "Know the Risks" video as it is available online (http://www.tuhsd.k12.az.us/mdn/athletics/registration/knowtherisks.htm). At this time, the hazing video is not available online but it may be shown at orientation or seasonal athletics meetings for participants and parents who wish to view it. Parents can also contact the school Activities Director for dates and times when the hazing video may be shown.

Will 6th graders have to read and sign the Code of Conduct form: Yes, 6th graders will be required to sign the form and have it on file. Athletes and their parents should be familiar with BPS policy relating to eligibility requirements, as well as drug, alcohol, and tobacco use. This information can be found on the Code of Conduct form, the district activities website as well as the student planner.
Is there a fee for 6th grade activities: Yes. The fee for 6th grade activities will be $20.00 per activity. There is a $100.00 cap per individual or $200.00 per family.

Will the district provide uniforms: Yes. A T shirt will be provided which can be used for multiple activities. Participants will provide their own shorts.

How will the teams/playing time set up: Teams will be divided evenly and not by any perceived skill level. There will be no A team, B team, etc. Playing will be equal for all participants.

6th Grade Activity Programming-BPS Middle Schools 2016-2017
The Bismarck Public Schools will be offering several activities for 6th grade students during the 2016-2017 school year. Many of the activities below were previously offered through the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District.

Football-Football will be offered through the Bismarck Midget Football League from mid-August to mid-October 2016. Games are played on Saturdays with practices being held two times per week at Hughes Field. For more information and to register, please go to their website at www.bismarckmidgetfootball.com.)

Girls Basketball-The Bismarck Public Schools will offer girls basketball to 6th grade students. The season begins August 29, 2016 and ends October 29, 2016. Each team will practice for one hour twice each week. Practice schedules will be organized at the beginning of the season. Practices will be held at each middle school. Each team will play 6 games and one jamboree where they play 3 games. Games will be played on the following dates and locations:
*Saturday, Sept. 10-Simle Middle School
*Saturday, Sept. 17-Wachter Middle School
*Saturday, Sept. 24-Horizon Middle School
*Saturday, Oct. 1 - Simle Middle School
*Saturday, Oct. 8-Horizon Middle School
*Saturday, Oct. 15 - Wachter Middle School
*Thursday, Oct. 27 - Horizon Middle School
*Saturday, Oct. 29 - Wachter Middle School

Boys Basketball-The Bismarck Public Schools will offer boys basketball to 6th grade students. The season begins November 1, 2016 and ends January 14, 2017. Each team will practice for one hour twice each week. Practice schedules will be organized at the beginning of the season. Practices will be held at each middle school. Each team will play 6 games and one jamboree where they play 3 games. Games will be played on the following dates and locations:

*Saturday, Nov. 19-Simle Middle School
*Saturday, Dec. 3-Horizon Middle School
*Saturday, Dec. 10-Simle Middle School
*Saturday, Dec. 17-Wachter Middle School
*Saturday, Jan. 7-Horizon Middle School
* Tuesday, Jan. 10 - Simle Middle School
*Saturday, Jan. 14-Wachter and Horizon Middle Schools

Girls Volleyball-The Bismarck Public Schools will offer girls volleyball to 6th grade students. The season begins January 23, 2017 and ends March 18, 2017. Practice schedules will be organized at the beginning of the season. Each team will play 6 games and one jamboree where they play 3 games. Games will be played on the following dates and locations:
*Saturday, Feb. 4-Simle Middle School
* Saturday, Feb. 11 - Horizon Middle School
*Saturday, Feb. 18 - Wachter Middle School
*Saturday, Feb. 25-Horizon Middle School
*Saturday, March 4 -Wachter Middle School
*Tuesday, March 7 - Simle Middle School
*Thursday, March 9 - Simle Middle School
*Saturday, March 18-Horizon, Simle, and Wachter Middle School

Boys Soccer-The Bismarck Public Schools will offer boys soccer to 6th grade students. The boys' season begins August 29, 2016 and ends October 15, 2016. Games will be played on Saturdays and one Tuesday at the Cottonwood complex. Each team will play 6 games and will have one jamboree where they play 3 games. Practices are held twice each week with sites TBD.

Wrestling-The Bismarck Public Schools will be offering 6th grade wrestling in conjunction with the 7th and 8th grade program. The season will run October 24, 2016 through December 17, 2016. Practices will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with the 7th and 8th grade practice. Competitions are TBD.

Cross Country-The Bismarck Public Schools will offer cross country to 6th grade students. The season will begin on Monday, August 15, 2016 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 8. There will be 5 meets held for the 6th grade students on dates that will be determined once the 7th and 8th grade cross country schedules are completed.

Boys and Girls Track and Field-The Bismarck Public Schools will offer track and field to 6th grade students in conjunction with the 7th and 8th grade program. The season will begin Monday, March 20, 2017 and will end Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Practice will be held on Tuesday and Thursday following the 7th & 8th grade practice. There will be 4 meets held for 6th grade students on dates that will be determine once the 7th & 8th grade track schedule is completed.

Boys and Girls Golf-There will be no golf offering to 6th grade
students through the Bismarck Public Schools for the 2016-2017 school year. Golf is offered through the Dakota Junior Golf Association during the summer in June and July. For more information visit their website at www.djga.org.

Dance-There will be no dance offering to 6th grade girls through the Bismarck Public Schools for the 2016-2017 school year. The private Just For Kix program and other studios such as Let's Dance, Northern Plains Ballet, and Culture Shock offer dance.

Cheerleading - Cheerleading will be offered to 6th graders for the 7th & 8th grade girls basketball season beginning October 24 and ending December 17. 6th graders may also cheer for midget football which is not affiliated with BPS.
