What is Family and Consumer Science?

Family and Consumer Science is the new name for the old Home Economics. This new name is a more accurate reflection of all the concepts Family and Consumer Science classes teach. "Family" in all its forms, is still the focus of instruction. "Consumer" incorporates many skills involved in managing daily life-goals, prioritizing, decision making, as well as making choices in how resources will be used. "Science" because our profession draws from both the physical and social sciences to understand and meet individual, family, and community needs.
