Why do we need a new web site?
In the spring of 2006, nearly ¾ of the Parent Survey respondents chose to take the survey online; yet almost ½ of ALL respondents felt that their child's school or teacher was NOT using the school web site, email or a teacher website to keep them informed. In addition, over 90% of administrators felt it was ‘very important' to have a web presence that provides valuable and up-to-date information to parents, staff, students, and the community.
So, what is a district to do?
The technology department has been working with a local vendor on a full content management system that will allow for easy creation and sharing of content. Everyone - regardless of their technical skill level will soon be able to focus on what really matters; the quality of the content on our web sites for the district, buildings, schools, departments and even classrooms. No more software to learn, install or maintain. We can focus on content that will be thoughtful and well edited; sites will be cohesive and consistent in look and feel all the way from district, to building, to department, to teacher and to classroom pages.
There's more to a website than links and logos. It's about optimizing communication, learning and gaining efficiencies both internally and externally with students, parents, employees and the community. The Bismarck Public Schools Technology Department is here to guide everyone involved, in making the transition a smooth one and ensuring that we go forth with a web site that is for education.

A Web Site for Education
What is a web site for education? It is a way for everyone involved in education to achieve better two-way communication:- Schools creating sites where content is dynamic; sharing and updating in real time in a way that is non-technical and adds value for students, parents, employees and the community.
- Classroom teachers or students creating sites that contain curricula connections and innovative practices that could include collaborative writing and communication, pod casting and streaming video just to name a few.
- Community members or parents taking an active roll in their child's school by volunteering time to update pages, calendars, athletic, fine arts or school sponsored events.
- Employees having access to online form and registration submissions and professional development tools that include just-in-time modules, tip sheets, and best-practices postings on topics such as PowerSchool or differentiated instruction.
