BPS Network

Wired: The district leases two strands of fiber optic cable for each buildling. The BPS infrastructure is switch driven with the minimum throughput of 100 Mbps. Many of the switching ports support gigabit. Our machines are connected 100Mbps to the desktop. There are approximately 7,800 network ports within the district. All ports are capable of supporting voice, video, and data.

Wireless: All BPS buildings have wireless capability. The district employs a centralized wireless controller which allows all the access points in buildings to be managed from one location.

BPS Security Camera Services

The Bismarck Public School District Board of Education committed funds to help secure all buildings by installing outside and inside cameras. All buildings are equipped with security cameras and connected to digital video recorders. Incidents can be recovered and reviewed on tape by principals and law enforcement.

BPS Phone Systems

BPS is in the process of moving from older PBX phone systems to Voice over IP (VOIP) systems. Currently about half of the buildings in the district use VOIP. The replacement costs between PBX and VOIP are similar but VOIP opens up more opportunities for functions, features, and flexibility.
