Welcome to the Saxvik Orchestra's webpage. We're enjoying the 2012-2013 school year with expectations for great music-making and success in developing technical skills as we explore new aspects of string playing!

The Bismarck Public School District is pleased to be able to offer beginning string instrument instruction starting with students in the 4th grade. Classes will be offered twice weekly on violin, viola, cello and bass at the elementary level. This service is free of charge. Orchestra classes are available to students through middle and high school as well and is a skill that can be carried through life.

In order for your child to participate in these classes, it will be necessary for you to furnish an instrument. We have local instrument dealers who offer very reasonable rental or lease plans. Most 4th graders will need a or size instrument.

Learning to play a string instrument and belonging to the school orchestra opens up a whole new world of friendship and fun. Like all fine arts, music has a profound effect on the academic success of students.

Class Description

Saxvik has two orchestra classes that take place in the early hours of 7:30-8:00 AM. The 4th graders meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and the 5th/6th graders meet combined on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Saxvik students play two major concerts per year. The first takes place in December combined with Rita Murphy, Miller, and Pinoeer Elementaries and the last takes place in April combined in an all-city concert with all of the BPS schools. Students also have the opportunity to participate in two festivals: the Elementary/Middle School Music Festival and the Fiddle Fest at the Governor's Mansion, both in February.
