History

Robert Miller Elementary, named for a former Superintendent of Schools, opened its doors in 1979 with eight teachers and an enrollment of 161 students. Robert Miller is located in a residential neighborhood in northeast Bismarck and accepts students both north and east of the city. It has experienced rapid growth during the past 28 years and the first addition was added in 1981 to accommodate this increasing population. The most recent addition was added in 2006 with eight new classrooms, a cafeteria, and many smaller rooms to accommodate specialists and small group instruction. This addition allowed Miller to say farewell to five portable classrooms, which had housed our fifth and sixth grade population for many years.

Robert Miller has a very dedicated staff of over 30 teachers and specialists along with a tremendous support staff who help to make Miller run smoothly. The most recent student enrollment figures showed 503 students at Miller Elementary.

In addition to classroom instruction in the content areas, general music, physical education, orchestra, band, school counseling, library media center, and special services are provided. Special services available include the Title I Reading Program, speech and language, learning disabilities, and a resource room where students with disabilities receive appropriate education planning to fit their unique instructional needs. Miller students also have the opportunity to participate in the Levels of Service, gifted and talented program. Miller is also fortunate to have a school nurse available to help with medical issues and emergencies.

Miller Elementary has a very dedicated group of parents who participate in the Parent Teacher Organization and host many events throughout the school year. They provide valuable funding for many educational and worthwhile projects to enhance student learning.
