GUIDANCE CURRICULUM

Freshman Group Guidance

1st quarter
Total In Class Time Mods: 2 per week
Each student will:
Participate in an orientation to Legacy High School, including LHS expectations.
Learn and apply time management and study skills in order to effectively navigate high school to
achieve maximum academic and personal growth.
Learn about graduation and North Dakota scholarship requirements.
Understand how to read a high school transcript, calculate GPA, and common high school academic
terms.
Complete an interest assessment. Identify career clusters for further exploration.
Review or complete a 4 year high school plan.
Review anti-bullying and harassment policies and appropriate steps to take in these situations.
Develop an awareness and recognition of warning signs to help prevent self-harm and suicide.
Identify self-help and adult resources within the building and the community.

Sophomore Group Guidance

4th quarter
Total In Class Time Mods: 2 per week
Each student will:
Evaluate internal factors related to the career decision making process.
Complete an interest inventory.
Review electronic portfolio on RUReadyND. Explore career interests and education needed.
Compare graduation and college entrance requirements (GPA, class rank, credits, specific courses).
Review current 4 year plan and revise as necessary considering career, college, and ND scholarship
requirements.
Create a resume, learn job seeking skills, conduct mock interviews, and learn how to secure an
internship.
Learn about and practice healthy decision making and problem-solving skills. Understand the
consequences of choices.
Develop an awareness and recognition of warning signs to help prevent self-harm and suicide.
Examine the physical, emotional, and legal consequences of harassment and bullying.

Junior Group Guidance

2nd quarter
Total In Class Time Mods: 2 per week
Each student will:
Receive information regarding post-high school educational training options including college
(technical, 2 year, 4 year, and beyond), military, apprenticeship, and on the job training.
Develop skills to navigate the internet and RUReady to explore post-secondary options and review high
school and/or experience requirements for entry level admissions.
Understand how to search and apply for scholarship and navigation the financial aid process.
Evaluate external factors related to the career/major decision making process.
Review 4 year plan and revise as necessary.
Discuss the ACT and WorkKeys assessments.
Explore careers through interaction with local professionals. This may be done through interviews,
job-shadowing, speakers, etc.
Learn techniques for managing stress and conflict.
Develop an awareness and recognition of warning signs to help prevent self-harm and suicide.

Senior Group Guidance

1st Quarter
Total In Class Time Mods: 2 per week
Each student will:
Evaluate transcript in relation to graduation requirements and post-secondary plans (college entrance
requirements, military requirements)
Receive information regarding the college application process, ASVAB testing, requesting letters of
recommendation and transcripts, and transitioning into a career.
Review websites available for college and career planning. Explore opportunities at their future school(s) or
career(s) of choice.
Receive information on the financial aid, fee waiver, and scholarship application process.
Develop a calendar of important deadlines for students to use as a personal guide in their senior year
planning.
Complete an individual interview, "Senior Meeting" with the counselor.
