What Can You Expect in Math 6?

Sixth grade Math is a standards-based course that transitions the students from arithmetic to algebraic thinking. Students in sixth grade Math will continue to expand their knowledge in areas of number sense, algebra, statistics, probability, patterns, relationships, and functions. There will be an emphasis on making connections through problem solving.

Effort Leads to Success

There will be a strong emphasis on effort and continuous growth throughout the school year. Math is typically a subject that is viewed differently than other subjects. There is more of a "black & white" perception with math - either you're right or you're wrong! With that comes a lot of anxiety and frustration, especially with early failure. When first introducing a concept or lesson, we will be practicing and striving toward proficiency; therefore, there should be a relaxed sense of anxiety knowing that it's a new concept and it's just practice! Each student will know exactly where they're at in regards to their progress with each standard. I'm most excited to see each student's growth throughout the year, regardless of where he or she starts the year.
