Class of 1960

Born and reared in Bismarck, Harry Pearce graduated from Bismarck High School in 1960. He earned his bachelor's degree from the United States Air Force Academy in 1964 and his juris doctor degree from Northwestern University's School of Law in 1967.

After beginning his law career in Bismarck with the firm of Pearce and Durick, where he also served on the city commission and as a municipal judge, Harry rapidly gained national stature when he became a legal counsel for General Motors. A member of that corporation's board of directors from 1996 until his retirement in 2001, he was an executive vice president for several years and general counsel for GM's legal staff.

Pearce has received numerous awards and sits on the boards of many outstanding businesses and organizations, both national and international. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Roughrider Award from his home state of North Dakota. Presently living in Michigan, he is chairman of Nortel Ltd. and Nortel Networks Corporation.
