Class of 1953

A graduate of the class of 1953 at BHS, Gary Miller was born an artist. At an early age, his strong hands began to paint the most delicate and intricate work and this talent developed as he grew older. By 1960, he was already showing his work at local exhibits where he consistently won awards. He went on to display his work across the U.S. and was soon recognized nationally as an outstanding artist. His paintings of rural life, depicting both the past and the present, have appeared in galleries and magazines throughout the nation.

Gary touched the memories of America with his delicate artistic detail, whether it was a rural church, a mountain man, or prairie landscapes. As his art gained national prominence, he began to do commissioned works and offered his paintings to all people
through collector's prints.

Gary won many awards including the William F. Cody Award for portraying rural America and the State of North Dakota Certificate of Lifetime Achievement Award. Among his final works was a series of three paintings he completed for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial.
