Darrell Anderson
Class of 1973

Darrell Anderson, a 1973 graduate of Bismarck High School, has attained statewide, regional and national level success as a head boys track & field and cross country coach at BHS. Anderson began his coaching career in 1980 as the head boys' and girls' cross country coach and was named head boys' track coach in 1989. During that time, the Demons combined for 30 state titles and 39 conference titles. The last ten cross country and eleven track titles have been shared with co-head coach Dave Zittleman. Anderson is the longest tenured coach in BHS history at 35 years.

Named National Track Coach of the Year in 2012, Anderson has also been named North Dakota Coach of the Year 19 times. He was voted into the North Dakota Track Hall of Fame, the North Dakota Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the Bismarck State College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Anderson believes that leaders should instill in their teams a plan for success and a belief in themselves to accomplish goals.

He graduated from BSC in 1975; and NDSU in 1978 with a degree in communications. Darrell is married to Carol and they have two children, Calvin and Britta, both BHS graduates.
