Strolling Strings of Bismarck

Strolling Strings 2010-11 Group Photo
The Strolling Strings of Bismarck is a performing organization sponsored by the Bismarck Public Schools, in Bismarck, North Dakota. The group of 50 string players, on violin, viola, cello, and string bass, have created quite a name for themselves in central North Dakota. We have requests from organizations and businesses throughout the area to entertain at their conventions or special dinners. In addition to our performances in our region, our travels have taken us to performances on both coasts - from New York to San Francisco, from Orlando to Seattle.

The members of the Strolling Strings are all members of their middle school or high school orchestra programs who have committed to memorizing a 20 piece, 45 minute program of light classical and popular music. Our show includes "oldies" as well as more current pop, and familiar fiddle tunes. We might even sing to you! Seasonal favorites will spice the show when appropriate. Our usual performance is for an audience seated at tables for a dinner or banquet. Our show will include the performers playing in a large circle around the room, as well as strolling right up next to the guests and "getting a little rosin dust in their soup"!

Our purpose is purely entertainment - to bring the joy of music- making "up close and personal" to our audience. Fees for performing go directly back to the students to pay down costs of uniforms, trips, and extra activities.

We would be happy to provide references upon request. Please contact us for booking and fee information.

Strolling Strings Trip to Washington, D.C. - 2008

Every other year, right after school gets out, we take a road trip to perform and be tourists. This year we travelled to Washington, D.C. and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the area.

Our activities included a visit to the International Spy Museum, a moonlight trolley tour of sights in the area, visits to many of the Smithsonian Museums and Arlington National Cemetery, visits to the offices of Congressman Pomeroy and Senator Conrad, a tour of the Capitol, lead by an alumnus of Bismarck High School who is interning for Sen. Conrad, a tour of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and attendance at a National Symphony Orchestra concert, a trip to Mount Vernon, and a visit to the National Holocaust Museum. On the way back to Bismarck we stopped in Hershey PA and spent the day at Hershey Park.

Our performance on tour was at Union Station, a historic building and transportation center for the region.
